Desk Calendar Product & Packaging Design

Classic, minimalist, and letterpress printed by hand– the Acrylic Desk Calendar and packaging were designed for elegance and subtlety.

Having retired the previous wire-bound offset printed desk calendar, Appointed sought to fill the newly created void with a more substantial accessory that would blend seamlessly with almost any desk setup. The newly designed Acrylic Desk Calendar utilizes a two-piece acrylic easel and letterpress printed cotton cards for each month, packaged within a letterpress printed box reminiscent of an upscale mailer.

Though there were serious limitations due to small order volumes that compounded the pre-existing production and budget constraints– the Acrylic Desk Calendar excited and delighted new and old customers alike as a welcome upgrade to their desk.

Having limited kitting capabilities due to small production runs: the packaging was designed with a manual process in mind. Adhesive, in the form of DS tape, was only used in the final step of assembly to seal the package, and folds were kept to a minimum to reduce strain on the fulfillment team while simultaneously minimizing kitting time and reducing loss due to production errors.

The Acrylic Desk Calendar wasn’t designed to command attention but to offer a gentle reminder of the current month’s dates. Lead by the objective of minimizing visual distraction– the cards used a two-step letterpress process to apply a blind impression of the month, as this requires the least day-to-day attention and a cool gray fill for the individual days. The minimalist low-contrast cards paired with the transparent acrylic easel made for a visually flexible product that fits right in on almost any desk setup without adding visual clutter.
